JOHN F. LAURO is an accomplished trial lawyer with experience in complex criminal and commercial litigation. Mr. Lauro handles cases involving accounting, securities, conspiracy, healthcare and other white collar and commercial litigation issues. Throughout his career, he has concluded several high-profile matters that have generated considerable public attention and successful results for his clients. Mr. Lauro has obtained a Rule 29 acquittal in a high profile federal criminal case on behalf of the former president of a national healthcare company, who had been accused of violating the federal securities and conspiracy laws. Mr. Lauro has successfully represented an individual charged in the first “dot-com securities fraud” case brought in federal court in Manhattan, which resulted in a jury acquittal on all counts. Additionally, he has represented a well-known sports figure, who had been charged with violating the federal wire fraud statute in connection with gambling activities. Mr. Lauro has also obtained a dismissal of all civil claims against a Middle Eastern banking institution in connection with the 9/11 litigation pending in New York. The case went to the Supreme Court, which denied review. Also, Mr. Lauro obtained a multi-million dollar judgment against a New York investment advisor for defrauding an international jewelry manufacturer in connection with an investment account.

Mr. Lauro grew up in New York and later graduated from Georgetown University magna cum laude. While a college student, Mr. Lauro was elected to a position as an Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner in the District of Columbia. As an elected official, he focused most of his attention on the development of the Georgetown waterfront and other constituent issues. He then attended Georgetown University Law Center and graduated magna cum laude. While a law student, Mr. Lauro was an editor of the Georgetown Law Journal.

Following graduation from law school, Mr. Lauro returned to New York and began practicing with the international law firm of Morgan, Lewis, and Bockius. He later joined the criminal division of the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York. After government service, Mr. Lauro established a practice in Florida, and became a partner with a national law firm. In 1994, he founded The Lauro Law Firm, (now known as Lauro & Singer) which has offices in New York and Florida with a national practice.

Mr. Lauro is an active member within the legal community. He frequently participates in various continuing education and writing and speaking engagements involving environmental compliance, healthcare enforcement, trial evidence, Sarbanes-Oxley, securities compliance, federal sentencing, and other complex criminal and civil issues. He has been selected to be a Fellow in The American College of Trial Lawyers and has been continually selected by his peers to be included in The Best Lawyers in America and Florida Super Lawyers. Mr. Lauro is a graduate of The Gerry Spence Trial Lawyers College and is a legal contributor to the Fox News Network, ABC News, MSNBC, and other news media.

GREGORY M. SINGER is Partner at Lauro & Singer. A native of Florida, Mr. Singer received his undergraduate education at the University of Florida, where he earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree with a major in Finance. Mr. Singer earned his law degree from the University of Minnesota, which he attended on a full academic scholarship. While in Law School, Mr. Singer served as a managing editor of the Minnesota Journal of Law, Science & Technology and interned as a content associate at the nation’s largest legal information and research company, Thomson Reuters. Upon returning to Florida, Mr. Singer sat for the Florida Bar Examination, where he scored in the 99th percentile state-wide, including the highest score in the area comprising Florida’s Second District Court of Appeal.

David C. Levenson is Of Counsel at Lauro & Singer. Mr. Levenson received his undergraduate education at Tufts University in Boston, where he earned a Bachelor’s of Arts degree with a major in International Relations. He obtained his law degree and an LLM in bankruptcy law from St John’s University School of Law in New York. Mr. Levenson is a former law clerk to the Hon. Carla E. Craig, Bankruptcy Judge for the Eastern District of New York, and also a former interim law clerk to Hon. Melanie L. Cyganowski, Bankruptcy Judge in the Eastern District of New York.

Matt Luka joined Lauro & Singer in 2023 after nineteen years at Trombley & Hanes, P.A. in Tampa, FL. Prior to that, Matt was a law clerk to the Honorable Mark A. Pizzo, United States Magistrate Judge, United States District Court, Middle District of Florida. Matt primarily practices in the areas of federal and state criminal defense and civil litigation. Matt was born in St. Paul Minnesota in 1976 and grew up in Orlando, Florida. Matt received his B.A. from Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Virginia, in 1998 and went on to law school at the University of Florida where he graduated with honors in 2001. Matt played football at Washington & Lee where he was named conference defensive player of the week twice and was named to the all-conference team as an outside linebacker. He was also named to the Dean’s List in 1996 and 1997 and the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Academic Honor Role in 1997. In law school, Matt was a member of the Justice Campbell Thornal Moot Court Team from 2000 to 2001 where he won the Best Brief Award at the Florida Worker’s Compensation Competition. Matt also received Honors in Appellate Advocacy and was named to the Honor Roll in Spring 2000, Fall 2000, Spring 2001 and Fall 2001.

Filzah I. Pavalon is an Associate at Lauro & Singer, where she participates in all aspects of white collar criminal defense and complex civil litigation.

Ms. Pavalon grew up in the Washington metropolitan area and later received her law degree from the University of Virginia. Prior to joining Lauro & Singer, Ms. Pavalon focused on innovative health care technology from regulatory and academic perspectives, having worked for a nationally regarded academic medical center, provider organization, legislative advocacy practice, and a federal entity within the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services.

Leveraging her experience with the highly regulated industry, Ms. Pavalon now helps defend the firm’s clients in high-stakes, complex civil and criminal matters, including in federal investigations.

CHARLES LOUIS SHIER is an Associate at Lauro & Singer. Mr. Shier earned his law degree from Harvard Law School. Mr. Shier was admitted to the New York Bar in 2021 and worked in the New York office of Latham & Watkins as an associate for over two years.
